Book, CD-R Orange Book (part 2), and System Description
CD-ROM XA standards.
• The DR-R504X can read multi-session CD-ROM discs and also
read and write to multi-session CD-R discs.
• The DR-R504X has selectable rotational speed: 4X or 2X speeds.
• CD-DA data is transferred through SCSI.
• The writer has a SCSI controller and can be daisy-chained to
other SCSI devices.
• The DR-R504X has a high speed data transfer rate of
614 KBytes/sec. at 4X high rotational speed.
• The DR-R504X has a large data buffer of 1 MByte.
• The DR-R504X has a flash-memory EEPROM for easy
firmware upgrade via software.
2.3.1 DR-R504X Writer Configuration
The DRM-5004X basic configuration typically includes two DR-D504X
Readers. The unit may be custom configured, however, to hold a
minimum of one drive unit to a maximum of four drive units. The
drive units may be any combination of the DR-D504X Reader and the
DR-R504X Writer. The DR-R504X Writer can be placed in any of the
four drive bays. It is usually placed on its own independent SCSI bus
to assure there are no interruptions while writing to a CD-R.
See Figure 2-17, Two Pioneer Drives in the Two Upper Drive Bays of
the DRM-5004X. Placement of the DR-R504X Writer within the
DRM-5004X.
