Installing the Drive

4-36 Adding Options
n
If you are installing a SCSI drive, you must purchase an
optional SCSI cable. If you are installing a Plug and
Play SCSI device for use with a Plug and Play system,
make sure the SCSI cable comes with a terminated con-
nector. You can purchase this optional cable from your
NEC dealer.
n
Follow any pre-installation instructions in the guide that
comes with the drive, such as setting jumpers or
switches.
IDE drives must be set correctly as the first (master) or
second (slave) drive. Check the jumper settings on the drive
before beginning the installation procedure.
Only one drive can be identified as the master drive. If you
plan to use the NEC Versa IDE drive when docked, set the
docking station IDE drive to the slave settting.
Follow these instructions to install a hard disk drive in the
internal drive bay of the docking station.
Make sure docking station power is off, the NEC
Versa is not docked, all peripheral devices are dis-
connected, and all power cables are detached from
the docking station before starting this procedure.
Remove the docking station cover as described in
1.
"Cover Removal."
