AE is an abbreviation for Auto Exposure.
The Program AE mode is set automatically as the camera's initial shooting mode.

Select < > on the LCD panel.

While pressing the <
dial to select < >. Then release the <
button.
Focus the subject.

Look through the viewfinder and aim the Area AF
ellipse over the subject. Then press the shutter
button halfway.

The AF point which achieves focus flashes briefly.
At the same time, the green focus confirmation light
< > in the viewfinder is displayed.

The exposure setting will be displayed on the LCD
panel and in the viewfinder.
If the focus confirmation light < > in the viewfinder
blinks, the shutter will lock and a picture cannot be
taken. See "When Autofocus Fails (Manual
Focusing)" on page 73.
Make sure the exposure setting is not

blinking, then press the shutter button
fully to take the picture.
