SURFACE UNITS (Cont .)
Cookware for Radiant Glass Cookt ops
The following informat ion will help you choose cookware
which will give good performance on glass cookt ops.
NOTE: Follow all cookware manufact urer's recommendat ions
when using any t ype of cookware on t he ceramic cookt op.
Recommended
St ainless St eel
Aluminum
Heavy weight recommended.
Good conduct ivit y. Aluminum residues somet imes appear
as scrat ches on t he cookt op but can be removed if cleaned
immediat ely. Because of it s low melt ing point , t hin weight
aluminum should not be used.
Copper Bot t om
Copper may leave residues which can appear as scrat ches.
The residues can be removed, as long as t he cookt op is
cleaned immediat ely. However, do not let t hese pot s boil
dry. Overheat ed met al can bond t o glass cookt ops. An
overheat ed copper bot t om pot will leave a residue t hat will
permanent ly st ain t he cookt op if not removed immediat ely.
Enamel (painted) on Cast Iron
Recommended if bot t om of pan is coat ed.
Avoid/ Not Recommended
Enamel (paint ed) on St eel
Heat ing empt y pans can cause permanent damage t o cookt op
glass. The enamel can melt and bond t o t he ceramic cookt op.
Glass- ceramic
Poor performance. Will scrat ch t he surface.
St oneware
Poor performance. May scrat ch t he surface.
Cast Iron
Not recommended—unless designed specifically for glass
cookt ops.
Poor conduct ivit y and slow t o absorb heat . Will scrat ch t he
cookt op surface.
More about Cookware
• Place only dry pans on t he surface element s. Do not place
lids on t he surface element s, part icularly wet lids. Wet
pans and lids may st ick t o smoot h surface when cool.
• Do not use woks t hat have support rings. This t ype of wok
will not heat on t he cookt op.

• We recommend t hat you use only a flat - bot t omed wok.
They are available at your local ret ail st ore. The bot t om
of t he wok should have t he same diamet er as t he surface
element t o ensure proper cont act .
• Some special cooking procedures require specific
cookware such as pressure cookers or deep- fat fryers. All
cookware must have flat bot t oms and be t he correct size.
Check pans for flat bot t oms by using
a st raight edge. You should not be
able t o pass a US nickel coin under t he

not recommended.
Home Canning Tips
Be sure t he canner is cent ered over t he surface unit .
Make sure t he canner is flat on t he bot t om.
To prevent burns from st eam or heat , use caut ion when
canning.
Use recipes and procedures from reput able sources. These
are available from manufact urers such as Ball® and Kerr® and
t he Depart ment of Agricult ure Ext ension Service.
Flat - bot t omed canners are recommended. Use of wat er bat h
canners wit h rippled bot t oms may ext end t he t ime required
t o bring t he wat er t o a boil.
