2. Check the balance of the blade by putting it on a blade
balancer (Fig. 30). If the blade stays in a horizontal
position, the blade is balanced and can be used. If the
blade is not balanced, file some metal off of the back
side of the blade. Repeat this step until the blade is
balanced.

Installing the Blade
1. Install the blade, blade stiffener, curved washer, and
blade bolt (Fig. 28).
Important
The curved part of the blade must be
pointing toward the inside of the mower to ensure proper
cutting.
2. Tighten the blade bolt to 61 to 82 N m.
Important
Ensure that the cutting edge of the blade is
away from the mower housing.

Leveling the Mower

If the mower cuts unevenly and the cutting blade is not
bent, you must level the mower.
1. Move the machine to a level surface.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
4. Remove the ignition key.
5. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug.
6. Set the air pressure in the tires to the recommended
level; refer to Checking the Tire Pressure on page 27.

7. Remove the cotter pin at the front of the adjusting rod
(Fig. 31).

8. Loosen the nut at the rear of the adjusting rod (Fig. 31).
9. Turn the adjusting rod to the desired level.
10. Tighten the nut.
11. Install the cotter pin.

Washing under the Mower

After each use, wash under the mower to prevent grass
buildup for improved mulch action and clipping dispersal.
1. Park the machine on a hard level surface.
2. Disengage the blade (PTO).
3. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
4. Remove the ignition key.
