    Modulation 23WT25 and 500FSD20 as well as NSK5 work on the principle of frequency shift keying (FSK), a modulation scheme highly immune to interference and noise. The principle of FSK is the assignment of a characteristic frequency to a data bit to be trans- mitted.
  • Page 4: Configuration

    A modem at the end of a transmission line has to be terminated correctly. Please see 2.3 for details for the 23WT25 modem and 2.5 for the NSK5 modem. If a modem is staggered some- where in the run of a transmission line, it has to be configured to be high-impedant.
  • Page 5: Supported Channels And Frequencies

    Supported channels and frequencies 23WT25 and NSK5 support mainly the same center frequencies and deviations. The NSK5 also supports center frequencies above the ITU-T telecontrol and data band which reaches up to 3240 Hz. Only 600 baud and 2400 baud are not compatible to each other. A compatible 1200 baud plus speech option is not available on the 23WT25.

    Configuration of the 23WT25 modem The 23WT25 modem is configured by jumpers. For an in-depth description of all settings please see the connections and settings document 1KGT 150 592. In this document only basic settings for the interoperation of 23WT25 and NSK5 are described. The position of jumpers can be taken from Figure 2.

    2.3.1 Configuration of baud rate Transmission on the 23WT25 is fully bit-transparent, i.e. the duration of one bit on the serial interface directly corresponds to the time during which the respective frequency is present on the transmission line. Therefore, data transmission is possible for any baud rate smaller or equal than the config- ured baud rate.

    2.3.4 Configuration of 2-wire and 4-wire setups The modem 23WT25 can be operated in 2- and 4-wire mode in a point-to-point or multidrop topology. The jumper configuration for the different modes and topologies can be taken from Figure 3, Figure 4, Figure 5 and Figure 6.

    The baud rate of the NSK5 can be selected by switch positions 1 to 3 at the switches S1 (Transmit channel) and S2 (Receive channel) as listed in Table 2. For simplicity, only baud rates compatible to 23WT25 and 500FSD20 are listed. Switch S1/S2 Baud rate Standard 50 Bd.

  • Page 17: Verifying Operation

    In return, the DCD led on the 23WT25 modem will be switched on now, and the RxD led of the 23WT25 will flicker according to the TxD led of the NSK5. On the 23WT25 the SQ led should stay off during the complete reception period as long as pauses between transmis- sions are short enough not to trigger the delayed DCD alarm.
