Using the Stand by Function
When you plan to stop using your computer for a short period of time, you can
put it in stand by mode instead of turning it off completely. Putting the computer
in stand by mode saves energy and allows a quick return to normal computer use.
You can use any of the following three methods for activating the stand by mode.
To set the computer in stand by mode using the Stand By key
1 Save your work, close all applications, and close your dial-up Internet
connection, if applicable.
You can leave the Windows® operating system running.
2 Press the (Stand By) key on the top of the keyboard.
The computer goes into stand by mode.
To set the computer in stand by mode from the Windows
taskbar
1 Save your work, close all applications, and close your dial-up Internet
connection, if applicable.
You can leave the Windows operating system running.
2 From the Start menu on the Windows taskbar, select Shut Down.
3 Select Stand By.
4 Click OK.
The computer goes into stand by mode.
To let the computer go into stand by mode automatically
1 Save your work, close all applications, and close your dial-up Internet
connection, if applicable.
