(Recording/Playback Error)
Recording Error
Recording error is indicated when the data supply to the tape cannot catch up and the FIFO
memory becomes full (FIFO overflow).
When the
mark is displayed frequently, the cause may be scratches, wrinkles or dusts
in the tape, so replace the tape with a new one. If this does not solve the problem, clean
the heads using the supplied cleaning tape. If the problem still persists, contact service
engineer.
Playback Error
When the playback data contains an error that cannot be corrected, the recorder rewinds
the tape and attempts to read the data again (retry). During this retry operation, the data
remaining in the FIFO memory is output until the correct data is read. If the retry operation
allows the correct data to be read before the FIFO memory is emptied, playback continues
normally and the
mark is not displayed. If the retry operation repeats and the FIFO
memory becomes empty, the
mark is displayed and the output data is interrupted.
As shown above, the SIR-1000W allows error-free data reading by verifying the data in
real-time as it is recorded, and then rewinding the tape and playing back the data again
when an error occurs during playback. When transferring data to a computer using the
optional PCscanIII software, there is no limit on the number of retries using the FIFO
underflow, allowing playback with even fewer errors.
Note
If playing back the tape recorded in compression mode with the recorder with less than
version 30,
mark will appear just after starting playback.
