I have a Toro Z Timecutter 17-44 model Running and in park when either the brake or either operating handle is moved to operate the mower dies. Which is the likely culprit? Thanks

A Toro TimeCutter Z Series mower could die when the brake or operating handle is moved if the brake arm does not properly engage or disengage the brake cog. This may be due to incorrect adjustment of the brake rod. If the brake rod is too short or too long, the brake arm may not clear the teeth of the brake cog when disengaged, causing the engine to shut off as a safety measure. Proper adjustment involves loosening the jam nut, removing the clevis pin, turning the yoke to adjust rod length, reconnecting the clevis, and ensuring the brake arm clears the cog teeth when disengaged.
