IMPORTANT: Do not get oil or grease on the rubber

Replacing the Spark Plug

Check the spark plug periodically as given in the
Recommended Maintenance Schedule on page 16. If the
electrodes in the center of the plug are dark or have
deteriorated, install a new Champion RJ–19LM spark plug
or equivalent.
1. Clean the area around the spark plug.
2. Pull the wire off of the spark plug (Fig. 19) and
remove the plug from the cylinder head.
IMPORTANT:
Replace a cracked, fouled or dirty
spark plug. Do not sand blast, scrape or clean
electrodes because grit may eventually release from the
plug and fall into the cylinder, causing engine damage.
3. Set the air gap between the electrodes of the spark
plug at 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) (Fig. 33).
4. Install the spark plug in the cylinder head.
5. Torque the plug to 15 ft-lb (20.4 N m).
6. Push the wire onto the spark plug (Fig. 19).
