4.12. Apply anti-seize compound to the inside of the
tube portion of the shift pin assembly. Slip the
shift pin assembly onto the shift shaft with the
pin portion facing away from the hydro pump.
4.13. Drive the new spring pin through the shaft that
and the new shift pin assembly. See Figure 4.13.

4.14. Apply a small amount of thread locking com-
pound such as Loctite 242 (blue) to the threaded
portion of the bolt that holds the hydro pump to
the transmission. Install the bolt and spacer.
Torque to 12 - 14 ft.-lbs.
4.15. Remove the lower left hydro pump bolt that was
previously loosened. Apply thread locking com-
pound to it, and reinstall it. Torque to 12 - 14 ft.-
lbs.
4.16. Thread the jam nut and clevis onto the connect-
ing rod. Adjusting the length so that a measure-
ment of 9" from the center of the pin bore in the
clevis to the center of the hole at the opposite
end of the connecting rod will provide an initial
setting. The final adjustment can be made this
point. Orient the clevis so that the pin bore is in
the same direction as the hole at the opposite
end of the connecting rod.
4.17. Slide the connecting rod into position between
the shift pin and the shift shaft assembly, pass-
ing outboard of the arm on the shift assembly.

4.18. Connect the clevis to the shift pin. It is not nec-
essary to secure it with a hairpin clip at this
point.

4.19. Insert the pin on the shift shaft assembly through
the hole in the connecting rod.
4.20. Check the operation of the shift linkage, and
adjust as necessary to obtain positive detent feel
in High, Neutral and Low positions.
See Figure 4.20.

NOTE: It may be neccessary to thread the clevis
up or down the threaded end of the connecting
rod to achieve positive detent in all three posi-
tions. It will be necessary to remove the connect-
ing rod in order to make adjustments to it, then
reinstall it to check the adjustment.
