How to use c/s button and shifter in drive
1 comments:
Mr. Anderson
March 24, 2025
In a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK 280, the C/S button is used to switch between Comfort (C) and Sport (S) driving modes.
- Comfort mode (C): The vehicle starts in second gear for smoother acceleration and better traction on slippery roads. - Sport mode (S): The vehicle starts in first gear, and upshifts occur later for a more dynamic driving experience.
When the shifter is in Drive (D): - You can manually extend the gear range by briefly pressing the gear selector lever to the right (D+ direction). - You can limit the gear range by pressing the gear selector lever to the left (D- direction). - To cancel the gear range limit, press and hold the gear selector lever in the D+ direction until "D" reappears in the multifunction display.
This allows for more control over gear selection while keeping the automatic transmission engaged.

When replacing rims, only use genuine Mercedes-Benz wheel bolts specified for the particular rim type. Failure to do so can re- sult in the bolts loosening and may lead to an accident.
Operation Tires and wheels Tire care and maintenance Warning! Regularly check the tires for damage. Dam- aged tires can cause tire inflation pressure loss. As a result, you could lose control of your vehicle. Worn, old tires can cause accidents. If the tire tread is badly worn, or if the tires have sustained damage, replace them.
Page 320
Tread depth Do not allow your tires to wear down too far. Adhesion properties on wet roads are sharply reduced at tread depths under in (3 mm). Treadwear indicators (TWI) are required by law. These indicators are located in six places on the tread circumference and become visible at a tread depth of approx- imately...
Operation Tires and wheels Direction of rotation Unidirectional tires offer added advan- tages, such as better hydroplaning perfor- mance. Operation Tires and wheels Tire type code The code 4 ( page 339) may, at the option of the manufacturer, be used as a descriptive code for identifying significant characteristics of the tire. Date of manufacture The date of manufacture 5 ( page 339) identifies the week and year of manufac- ture.
Maximum tire inflation pressure 1 Maximum permissible tire inflation pressure For illustration purposes only. Actual data on tires are specific to each vehi- cle and may vary from data shown in above illustration. This is the maximum permissible tire inflation pressure for the tire. Always follow the recommended tire inflation pressure ( page 327) for proper tire inflation.

Operation Tires and wheels Quality grades can be found, where appli- cable, on the tire sidewall between tread shoulder and maximum section width. For example: Treadwear Traction Temperature All passenger car tires must conform to federal safety requirements in addition to these grades.
Temperature The temperature grades are A (the high- est), B, and C, representing the tire’s resis- tance to the generation of heat and its ability to dissipate heat when tested under controlled conditions on a specified indoor laboratory test wheel. Sustained high tem- perature can cause the material of the tire to degenerate and reduce tire life, and ex- cessive temperature can lead to sudden...

If you have questions about carrying out any type of service, turn to the advice of an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
Need help?
Do you have a question about the 2006 SLK 280 and is the answer not in the manual?
Questions and answers
How to use c/s button and shifter in drive
In a 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLK 280, the C/S button is used to switch between Comfort (C) and Sport (S) driving modes.
- Comfort mode (C): The vehicle starts in second gear for smoother acceleration and better traction on slippery roads.
- Sport mode (S): The vehicle starts in first gear, and upshifts occur later for a more dynamic driving experience.
When the shifter is in Drive (D):
- You can manually extend the gear range by briefly pressing the gear selector lever to the right (D+ direction).
