ADDITIONAL SAFETY RULES
FOR BATTERIES IN MOWER
1.
Use ONLY the Makita charger Model DC240 specified t o charge the Makita
2. Do not short the battery:
model UM4OlD.

Do not touch the charging inlet w i t h any conductive material.
2) Shut the cover on the charging inlet when not charging.
3)
Do
not expose mower t o water or rain.
A battery short can cause a large current flow, overheating, possible burns
and even a breakdown.

Do not leave mower exposed t o direct sunlight. Do not store mower in locations
where the temperature may reach or exceed
40°
C
( 1 0 4 O F).
4.
Batteries in Makita Model UM401D contains a strong electrolyte (dilute sulfuric
acid). Do not apply undue force t o the batteries, drop or strike them.
Do not
attempt t o disassemble or make modifications t o the batteries.
5.
I f the batteries break open and electrolyte (dilute sulfuric acid) contacts skin
or clothing, wash immediately w i t h running water.
If
electrolyte gets into your
eyes, rinse them out w i t h clear water and seek medical attention right away.
6.
As Service life of the batteries ends, their capacity and operation time
decrease. Contact your nearest Makita Service Center or Distributor t o replace
them w i t h new batteries.
7.
When replacing batteries, all batteries should be replaced at the same time.
Mixing fresh and discharged batteries could increase internal cell pressure and
rupture the discharged battery.
8.
When inserting batteries into this product, the proper polarity or direction must
be observed. Reverse direction of batteries can result in leakage or explosion.
9.
Never expose mower or batteries t o flames, fire or great heat. Breakage may
cause release of injurious material.
TIPS FOR MAINTAINING MAXIMUM RUN
PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE
1.
Charge the mower immediately after purchase.
2.
Always recharge the mower after each use without fail.
3.
We recommend that you leave the charger connected t o the mower even after
the charging cycle is complete. The charger will switch into its "maintenance
charge (trickle charge)" mode and keep the battery fresh and fully charged.
4.
Be sure t o charge the mower every six months, when not using it for long
periods. If
left
uncharged.,
it
may become unchargeable.
