Telligence Patient-Staff Communication System Operation Manual
Smart patient stations are mounted near beds in patient rooms.
They provide receptacles for pillow speakers, call cords, and
electronic bed control panels, which allow patients to call the
nursing unit from a bed or chair.
Staff members use the patient station call buttons to call the
nursing station or to signal a code blue or staff emergency. Patient
stations have built-in speakers and microphones for two-way voice
communication.
Staff and patient rooms may also be equipped with smart staff/duty
stations like the one shown at left. These devices have call buttons
that allow staff members to call the nursing station for assistance,
or to signal code blue or staff emergencies. Like patient stations,
staff/duty stations are audio-equipped, supporting two-way voice
communication.
A number of peripheral nonaudio-equipped call stations may also
be associated with the patient station. These include code blue
stations, staff emergency stations, lavatory stations and others.
Finally, patient stations typically have equipment receptacles for
connecting equipment such as IV pumps and respirators to the
nurse call system. This allows the system to monitor critical
equipment and to send an error message to the nursing station if
the equipment enters an alarm condition.

Single and dual patient stations

Single patient stations support one bed, and dual patient stations
support two beds. Typical dual and single patient stations are
shown in Figure 18 and Figure 19 on page 50.
