Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series

Fixed-configuration switches offering Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
with enhanced LAN services for mid-market and branch office networks. The
Catalyst 2960 Series compact switches are fanless models that are ideal for
deployments in office workspaces, classrooms, and other space-constrained
environments and enable intelligent services using enterprise-class features outside
of the wiring closet.
Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Intelligent Ethernet switches are offered in two categories:
• Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series with LAN Base Software
• Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series with LAN Lite Software
Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches with LAN Base software are a family of fixed-
configuration, standalone intelligent Ethernet devices with Power Over Ethernet
(PoE) or non-PoE configurations that provide desktop Fast Ethernet and Gigabit
Ethernet connectivity, enabling enhanced LAN services for entry-level enterprise,
mid-market, and branch office networks (See Figure 1). The Cisco Catalyst 2960 LAN
Base Series offers integrated security, including Network Admission Control (NAC),
advanced quality of service (QoS), and resiliency to deliver intelligent services for
the network edge.
Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches with LAN Lite software are fixed-configuration,
standalone switches that provide desktop Fast Ethernet connectivity for entry-level
wiring closet and small branch office networks. The Cisco Catalyst 2960 LAN Lite
Series Switches simplify the migration from non-intelligent hubs and unmanaged
switches to a fully scalable managed network. The LAN Lite Cisco IOS
®
Software
provides entry-level security, quality of service (QoS), and availability capabilities
while lowering the network total cost of ownership.
The Catalyst 2960 Series includes four configurations featuring dual-purpose
(alternative wired) uplinks for Gigabit Ethernet, allowing the network manager to use
either a copper or a fiber uplink. Each dual-purpose uplink offers one 10/100/1000
port and one SFP-based port, with one active at a time. The series includes 24-port
and 48-port Gigabit Ethernet switches which drive cost-effective Gigabit to the
Desktop (GTTD) across the network.
