A hardware kit (provided with the sensor) provides several mounting options. Double-sided tape strips are provided for both the sensor body and the magnetic
contact. The tape strips can be used to affix the back of the sensor and magnetic contact to a wall, door, or other flat-sided object. Simply peel off the backing
paper from one side, mount the tape strip on the back of the sensor or contact, then peel off the remaining backing paper and press the sensor or magnetic contact
against the mounting surface.
You can also mount the sensor and/or the magnetic contact more securely using the screws in the hardware kit. Using the drilling template (located on the back of
the installation instruction sheet), drill two small holes for each set of screws. Affix the screws to any object, leaving 1/16" space between the screw head and the
object. Mount the sensor or magnetic contact onto the screws and slide down to lock into place.
The spacing between the magnetic contact and the sensor body should be between 1/10-inch and 1/2-inch. The magnetic contact may be mounted either to the
left or to the right of the sensor body. In either case, the contact is usually mounted on the object that moves, while the sensor body is mounted on the fixed
object. Both the sensor body and the magnetic contact should be positioned vertically. Make sure that the bottom of the magnetic contact is aligned flush with the
bottom of the sensor base.
The Contact Sensor should not be installed on metal doors, metal door or window frames, or on or inside of metal objects. The discovery button is accessible from
the back side of the sensor, so it will be most convenient for you to register the sensor with your homesight software before mounting the sensor.
Battery Operation
The Contact Sensor is battery-operated. Two alkaline AAA batteries power the sensor. The battery compartment is located on the bottom edge of the sensor. To
open the battery compartment, slide the battery compartment door in the direction indicated by the arrow (located on the door).
Make sure that the batteries are inserted with the proper polarity. The outermost battery must be inserted with the positive (+) tip pointing downward (towards the
battery compartment door), while the innermost battery must be inserted with the negative (-) end pointing downward. The + sign engraved on the metal strip
inside of the battery compartment door must contact the + terminal of the battery when the door is closed.
The Contact Sensor has built-in power-saver technology to prolong the battery life. Battery lifetime will depend on actual use and how often the sensor is
triggered. A fresh set of batteries is expected to last up to 12 months. You can check the sensor's battery state by looking at the device list on the device overview
page of this guide.
Door/Window Sensor Properties
The contact sensor properties Config panel gives you control over sensor settings such as:
• sensor name
• power saving behavior
To display the contact sensor properties panel, click on the Config icon (located at the right of each sensor entry in the Device Overview device list).
