The D-Link DWL-650 is a high-speed 11 Megabits per second
(Mbps) Ethernet wireless network adapter that plugs into your
Notebook PC's PCMCIA slot. Once connected with other
n e t wo r ked PC's, it allows you to share hard disk drives, DV D
d r ives, CD drives, Iomega Zip drives, printers and prov i d e s
shared access to a modem for Internet access.
It strictly adheres to the most advanced IEEE netwo r k i n g
Standard for wireless connections, so the D-Link DWL-650 is
very compatible with multi-vendor environments that also
meet the standard compliance for IEEE 802.11b. The DW L -
650 bandwidth data transmission rate can be set manually at
11Mbps, 5.5Mbps, 2Mbps, 1Mbps or it can be set on dynamic
auto-sensing confi g u r a t i o n .
The D-Link DWL-650 will connect point to point (Ad Hoc) or
it can use an access point (Infrastructure Mode) to extend the
reach of its communications capability. In Infrastructure mode,
the DWL-650 can be connected to a broadband residential
ga t eway or a xDSL/Cable modem for high-speed wireless
Internet access on the existing network. It has full mobility and
seamless roaming from cell to cell as well as across access
points. The range of coverage per cell for indoor use is up to
100 meters and up to 300 meter per cell for outdoor use.
The D-Link DWL-650 is an IEEE 802.11b compliant
PCMCIA Type-II 11Mbps wireless LAN adapter. The DW L -
650 will operate in 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
(DSSS) for wireless networks in the home or offi c e
e nvironment. It is designed to operate in 3.3V or 5.0V DC
slots. In addition, the DWL-650 uses a 40-bit WEP (Wi r e d
E q u ivalent Priva cy) Encryption for a secure netwo r k
c o n n e c t i o n .
The DWL-650 comes with an internal non-detachable
d iversity patch antenna and one built-in green LED indicator
for pow e r, network link and activ i t y. The DWL-650 is
compatible with Wi n d ows 98, ME, 2000, NT 4.0 and other
popular operating systems.
