Troubleshooting Tips – Save time and money! Review the tips below and you may not need to call for service.
Problem
Smell of gas
Leak detected at
tank, regulator
or other connection
Flame flashback beneath
control panel
Burner will not light
Burners have low
flame or low heat
Decreasing heat,
"popping sound"
Cold spots on
cooking surface
"Flare-ups" or
grease fires
Humming noise from
regulator
Yellow flame
Inside of lid appears
to be peeling

Possible Causes
LP gas leak.
Gas leak in hose/regulator or
control valves.
Venturi tube(s) blocked.
Out of LP Gas.
Ignitor wire(s) not connected.
Ignitor electrode misaligned
on burner.
Ignitor malfunction.
Regulator is not fully connected
to the tank valve.
Controls left on while the LP
tank valve was opened causing
excess flow device to activate.
A leak in the system causing the
excess flow device to activate.
Venturi tube(s) blocked.
Venturi tube not aligned with
valve orifice.
Orifice blocked.
Hose is twisted.
Controls left on while the LP
tank valve was opened causing
excess flow device to activate.
Out of LP Gas.
Venturi tube(s) blocked.
Venturi tube(s) blocked.
Excessive grease buildup
on Flav-R-Wave.®
Excessive heat.
LP Tank valve turned on
too quickly.
Some yellow flame is normal.
If it becomes excessive, the
venturi tube(s) may be blocked.
Burner ports blocked.
This is a build up of grease,
not faulty paint.
What To Do
• Immediately turn the gas off by closing the LP tank valve.
See the Leak Testing section. Do not use the grill until the
leak is sealed.
• Immediately turn the gas off by closing the LP tank valve.

• Replace any hoses or parts that have become damaged.
• Remove burner, clean venturi tubes. See the Venturi tubes
section .
• Refill LP Tank.
• Connect both main burner and side burner electrode wires.
• Realign electrode.
• Use the To light with a match procedure.
• Hand tighten the regulator coupling.
• Turn the control knobs to OFF , then turn the gas off by
closing the LP tank valve. Open the LP tank valve slowly,
then turn the control knob on.
• Immediately turn the gas off by closing the LP tank valve.
See the Leak Testing section. Do not use the grill until the
leak is sealed.
• Remove burner, clean venturi tube(s). See the Venturi tubes
section.
• Realign venturi tube(s) to orifice(s). See the Venturi tubes
section.
• Remove main burner, clean orifice with a pin or fine wire.
Do not attempt to drill orifice.
• Straighten hose. Keep away from bottom casting.
• Turn the control knobs of OFF , then turn the gas off by
closing the LP tank valve. Open the LP tank valve slowly,
then turn the control knob on.
• Refill LP Gas Tank.
• Remove burner, clean venturi tube(s). See the Venturi tubes
section.
• Remove burner, clean venturi tube(s). See the Venturi tubes
section.

• Clean Flav-R-Wave.
See the Regular cleaning section.
• Turn burner controls to a lower setting or raise cooking
grid to upper position (2-position grids only).
• Turn the LP tank valve on slowly.
• Remove the main burner and clean the venturi tube(s).
See the Venturi tubes section.
• Remove the main burner and clean with soft bristle brush.
• Clean with a stiff bristle brush or scraper.
