With the trimmer line still in the slot in the top of the
spool flange, thread the line through the eyelet in
the drum.

Align the two screwdriver slots with the keys in the
core and push the spool partially onto the core.

Pull on the line to release
it
from the spool; flange
then push the spool firmly onto the core until it
"snaps" into place.

Insert a medium Made screwdriver into one of the
two slots on the bottom of the spool and twist 1/4
turn to release the spool
Remove the
spool
While holding the drum stationary, unscrew the
core and driver assembly
by rotating them
counterclockwise.
Remove the core, the driver, the washer and the
spring.
Pull the drum up and off the drive shaft.
Tap and Trim@ Head Inspection
1.
Inspect the drum for any obvious damage to the
plastic.
2.
Make sure that the eyelet in the drum is intact and
that the areas that contact the trimmer line are
smooth.
3.
Check that the rivet directly opposite the eyelet is
still in place. (The purpose of the rivet is
to
counterbalance the eyelet.)
Tap and Trim@ Head Reassembly
1.
Mount the drum on the drive shaft making sure that
it
mates properly with the coil pin.
2.
Center the spring on the drive shaft and then place
the washer, driver and core onto the shaft
as
an
assembly. See Fig. 158.

Screw the core and driver onto
the drive shaft while
holding the drum. It may be necessary to press
on
the driver in order to get
it
started on the threads.
Screw the driver/core assembly
on finger tight.
4.
Make sure that
the core indexes freely on the
driver.

Install the spool as described under Tap
and
Trim@ Spool Installation, page
67.
