3 Procedure for Connecting and
Routing Cables to the LXr 8500
Step 1: Prepare to Cable the HP NetServer LXr
8500

Assess How Components Will be Connected to the Server

You may find the following steps to be helpful before you begin cabling:
Review the layout of the rack installation generated with Hewlett-Packard
rack configuration tools, such as Rack Assistant.
Consider the cabling guidelines discussed in Chapter 2, in the section
"Data Cabling References and Guidelines."
Review the plan for your rack power subsystem, considering how you will
provide failure resistance (see Appendix B on the Redundant Switch),
interim power (see Table 2-1 on Uninterruptible Power Supplies) and
distribution (see the section of Chapter 2 titled "Power Distribution
Units").
Check that you have completed the mounting of the Cable Guides, Cable
Management Arms, and Power Distribution Units as noted below. See Figure 2-2
for an example illustration showing how these three items may look when
mounted..

Attach Cable Guide to Rack Column

Using the instructions included, attach the two Cable Guides to the rack column.

Mount the Cable Management Arm

The HP NetServer LXr 8500 includes a Cable Management Arm. Mount the arm
by following the instructions in the Installation Guide which accompanies your
unit. Further details are included in the section of this chapter titled "Cable
Management."
