8-12 Troubleshooting
The keyboard or mouse fails to operate:
Is the BIOS configuration correct?
→ The keyboard and mouse may have been disabled with the BIOS SETUP utility of
the server. Check the settings with the BIOS SETUP utility.
<Menus to check: [Advanced] - [Peripheral Configuration], [Advanced] -
[NumLock]>
If Windows 2000 and Linux have not been started:
→ When using both an USB keyboard and an USB floppy disk drive, do not strike
any key before the access lamp on the USB floppy disk drive shuts down (or the
floppy disk is not accessed anymore).
– Press F6, S, and Enter in installation by using the Windows 2000 Setup Disk
– Start of ROM-DOS Startup FD for command input
ICMB does not work:
Are the cables connected properly?
→ The ICMB cable connector has the same shape than the RJ-45 connector. Make
sure that the cable has not been connected to a LAN device by mistake.
The correct CD-Rom is inserted, but an error message is displayed:
The CD-ROM is not inserted or the wrong CD-ROM is inserted.
Is the data side of the CD-ROM dirty or scratched?
→ Take the CD-ROM out of the CD-ROM drive, confirm that it is not dirty or
scratched, reset and click [OK].
Fail to access the hard disk drive:
(Refer to the documentation in the NEC EXPRESSBUILDER CD-ROM for the onboard disk array
controller (HostRAID).)
Is the hard disk drive compatible with the server?
→ Operation of any device that is not authorized by NEC is not guaranteed.
Is the hard disk drive properly installed?
→ Make sure to lock the hard disk drive with the lever on its handle. The hard disk
drive is not connected to the internal connector when it is not completely installed
(see Chapter 3).
