Possible Causes
1 . Oven control dials set incorrectly.
2 . Oven was pre-heated before baking.
3 . New oven runs hotter / colder than your old
o v e n .
4 . Oven door opened too often during baking.
1 . Oven door not latched properly.
2 . Self-cleaning controls have been set
i n c o r r e c t l y.
3 . Stove clock shows the incorrect time of day.
1 . Oven was excessively dirty before the self-
clean cycle.
2 . Oven controls have been set incorrectly.
1 . Self-clean latch is locking the oven door.
2 . Oven temperature is too hot.
1 . Power failure occurred.
1. Normal behaviour for new ovens.
1 . Meat too close to top element or meat not
properly prepared.
2 . Oven door was not kept ajar.
3 . Bottom of broil pan is heavily soiled.
4 . Grease build up on oven.
5 . Grid on broiler pan is upside-down;
improper cookware used.
6 . Oven controls not set properly.
Solution
1 . Read the instructions on how to set your
s t o v e 's timer, selector and temperature dials.
2 . Only pre-heat the oven when recommended
by the recipe.
3 . Old oven temperature was incorrect or new
o v e n 's thermostat needs adjusting. Read the
instructions on "How to Adjust your Oven
Temperature" (special feature)" (on some models).
4 . Open oven door only when necessary; check
doneness by turning on the oven light and
looking through the oven door glass.
1 . Ensure that the door is closed and the self-
cleaning door latch has been positioned to
the right. Read the instruction on "How to
Set the Oven for Self-Cleaning".
2 . Read the instructions on "How to Set the
Oven for Self-Cleaning".
3 . Reset the clock to the correct time of day.
Read the section on "Stove & Oven Ti m e r
I n s t r u c t i o n s " .
1 . Run the self-clean cycle again. Excessive
spills and dirt should be wiped up before a
self-clean cycle. Use longer clean cycle
when oven is heavily soiled.
2 . Read the "How to start a self-clean cycle"
s e c t i o n .
1 . Slide self-clean latch to the left to unlock the
oven door.
2 . Wait for oven to cool below "Locking
Temperature". Thirty minutes after the self-
clean cycle the oven door may be opened.
Wait an additional thirty minutes before
using oven since oven will be very hot.
1 . Reset the clock. Read the "Stove & Oven
Timer Instructions".
1 . Monitor the odour over several uses or set a
self-clean cycle (on some models) for a
minimum of three hours.
1 . Lower the oven rack and trim excess fat
from edges.
2 . Open oven door to broil position.
3 . Add 3-4 cups of water to the bottom of the
broil pan so that the water will cool the
grease and prevent it from smoking.

4 . Oven needs to be cleaned. Perform a self-
cleaning cycle (on some models).
5 . Ensure that a proper broiler pan is used and
that the grid for the broiler pan is placed with
the slots down to allow grease to drip into
the pan.
6 . Read the instructions on how to set your
o v e n 's timer, selector and temperature dials.
