NOTE
NetRAID channels must not cross. Connect HP NetRAID channel 0 leading from both HP NetServers to the
same external storage cabinet. Likewise, cable both HP NetRAID channel 1 to the other storage cabinet. It is a good
idea to color code the cable ends with the ports they connect. In this way, when a cluster component is removed for
maintenance or repair, it can easily be reconnected without danger of crossing channels.

Connecting the LAN Adapters

To finish cabling the cluster you need to connect the two LANs that allow the cluster to communicate node to node
as well as outside the cluster. Keep in mind the intra-cluster LAN (that provides the cluster heartbeat) uses the slot 7
LAN adapters whereas the extra-cluster (client) PCI adapters are installed in slot 6.
To connect the cluster's LAN adapters:
1.
Using a crossover cable, connect System A PCI slot 7 to System B PCI slot 7.
2.
Connect a standard Ethernet cable connector to each of the cluster's PCI slot 7 adapters.
Your cluster's major hardware components are now cabled and cluster ready. After powering up your external
storage, you are ready to begin the process of software installation and configuration.
Powering Up the HP Storage System/6
With external cabling of the cluster complete, you are ready to configure the shared disks for cluster use. Begin by
powering on the HP Storage System/6 unit(s). Be sure to connect both power cords (each on a separate circuit) to
supply redundant power to the shared disk drives.
CAUTION
At this point and until Microsoft Cluster Server is fully installed, only one HP NetServer system should
be running NT 4.0 at a time. The other system must be either powered off or held at the NT loader prompt.
