Troubleshooting
If you experience any of the following issues while using the gigabeat, check the following
guide for the possible cause before contacting Toshiba's Customer Service.
Issue
The gigabeat
doesn't power up.
The button doesn't
work.
The battery is
consumed quickly
after charge.
Playback cannot be
performed.
There is no sound.
Audio data cannot
be transferred/
deleted.
The charge indicator
doesn't illuminate,
even when the
gigabeat is placed in
the Battery Charging
Stand.
The charge indicator
turned off while the
AC adapter was
connected.

Cause
The BATTERY switch
is set to OFF.
There is insufficient
power remaining in the
built-in battery.
The gigabeat is in
HOLD mode.
The button is not
being pressed long
enough.
The gigabeat is
connected to a PC.
The built-in battery
has failed.
There is no audio
data.
The headphones are
not connected
properly.
The volume is set to
the minimum.
The gigabeat is not
properly connected to
the PC.
The BATTERY switch
is set to OFF.
The gigabeat is not
placed in the Battery
Charging Stand
properly.
Outside the specified
operating-temperature
range
The charge is
automatically stopped
to limit the tempera-
ture increase in the
gigabeat.
Solution
Set the BATTERY switch to
ON.
Connect the AC adapter and
charge the built-in battery.
Reset the HOLD switch to
cancel the HOLD mode.
When turning on the power,
press the Jog switch for two
seconds or longer.
The gigabeat cannot be
operated while being con-
nected to a PC.
Replace with a new battery. To
replace the built-in battery,
contact Toshiba's Customer
Service at 1-866-553-3323 (or
1-949-583-3878 outside the
United States).
Use TOSHIBA Audio Applica-
tion to transfer audio data.
Check the connection between
the headphones and wired
remote controller and main
unit.
Adjust the volume.
Check the connection with the
PC.
Set the BATTERY switch to
ON.
Check the connection between
the AC adapter/power cable
and the main unit.
Charge within the operating-
temperature range.
This is a safety feature. Keep
the gigabeat in the Battery
Charging Stand. Charging will
resume after a while.
