Linear deformation in the pipe system
4.11 Linear deformation in the pipe system
36 | 48
The lengths of the pipes change as the temperature varies.
●
Temperature increase = pipes lengthen
●
Temperature decrease = pipes shorten
Mount the pipe fastenings in such a way that the pipes can lengthen and shorten
unhindered as the temperature varies.
The linear deformation is proportional to the temperature variation and can be
calculated using this formula:
ΔL = L ‧ ΔT ‧ δ
ΔL = Linear expansion [mm]
L = Length of pipe [m]
ΔT = Maximum temperature difference [°C]
δ = Linear expansion coefficient [mm/m °C]
δ
= 0.08
PVC
δ
= 0.101
ABS
Example:
ABS pipe length 8 m, temperature difference 12 °C
Linear deformation = 9.7 mm
ΔL = 8 m ‧ 12 °C ‧ 0.101 mm/m °C = 9.7 mm
