Protective Earth Ground

Install the protective earth ground per applicable codes, including applicable standards for
Intrinsic Safety ground. See the illustration, Figure 3-4 Example Maxum II outline drawing (Air-
bath or Airless Oven on left and Modular Oven on right) (Page 18) for connection locations.
Grounding locations are located on the back and top of the Maxum II Airbath or Airless Oven
or right side and top of the Maxum II Modular Oven. The ground is secured with a M5 x 10
socket head screw (uses M4 hex). Although there are multiple possible connection points, only
one externally connected ground is used.

Note
Protective Earth (PE) Grounds
In addition to the Protective Earth (PE) Grounds described above, there are additional PE
Ground connection points inside the Electronics Cabinet (EC). For the air bath or airless oven
configuration one is on the floor of the EC next to the PECM and four more located on the left
side wall of the EC just above the PECM. For the modular oven configuration there is one on
the floor of the EC on the front left side of the device and two more on the left side wall near the
front. These connections are marked with the same ground symbol as the external PE
connections. These PE connections may be used when it becomes necessary to connect
internal hardware to PE Ground (for example, if an Automatic Purge Unit is used). Local
electrical code rules regarding grounding connections must be followed.
Verify grounding paths
Ensure that a ground wire or protective conductor from the external protective earthing system
is connected to a ground lug or protective conductor terminal before connecting to mains
power. See the drawing and note above for location of the PE lug.

Cable Connection Using Steel Conduit System

Using flexible conduit and/or armored cable is equivalent to using "steel conduit."
● The power wiring and the Ethernet wiring can be regular unshielded lines. The power wiring
and signal wiring must be routed in separate conduit.
● All DO lines with inductive loads must have transient suppression at the inductive load.
● Flexible conduit or armored cable must have its flexible conduit and/or armoring conductivity
360-degree terminated at its entry to the Maxum II enclosure (or bulkhead.).
