Installing Docking Drivers (Optional) (Windows 98)

If you have an advanced port replicator (APR), you must install the Dock QuickInstall
drivers before installing the APR.
1. If the computer has never been turned on, turn it on now while it is undocked and
complete the operating system setup, and then continue to step 2. If you have
completed the operating system setup, turn on the computer, and then continue
to step 2. For setup instructions, see the Dell Inspiron Systems Setup Guide that
came with the computer.
2. Save your work in all open application programs because you will need to restart
your computer at the end of this procedure to complete the installation.
3. Insert the System Software CD into the CD-ROM drive.
4. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
The Run dialog box appears.
5. Type x:\win98\dockquik\setup, where x is the drive letter of your CD-ROM
drive, and click OK or press <Enter>.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
7 . When the CMD PCI IDE Driver Setup Utility window appears, click Y es to
continue.
8. When prompted to restart the Windows operating system, remove the System
Software CD from the CD-ROM drive, and then click Y es.
9. After Windows restarts, shut down the computer.
10. Dock the computer as described in your Advanced Port Replicator User's Guide.
11. Turn on the computer.
12. When the Add New Hardware Wizard window appears, click Next.
13. When prompted, click the Search for the best driver for your device
(Recommended) radio button, and then click Next.
14. When prompted to specify where Windows should search for the driver, click
Next.
15. When Windows locates the driver, click Next to begin the driver installation.
NOTE: The installation may appear to pause for 10 to 15 seconds while Windows
copies files.
16. When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.
