A INTRODUCTION This manual consists of the following 12 sections: Section Description INDEX Index of the contents of this manual. INTRODUCTION Brief explanation of each section. HOW TO USE THIS Instructions on how to use this manual. MANUAL TROUBLE– Describes the basic inspection procedures for electrical circuits. SHOOTING ABBREVIATIONS Defines the abbreviations used in this manual.
Page 3
HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL B This manual provides information on the electrical circuits installed on vehicles by dividing them into a circuit for each system. The actual wiring of each system circuit is shown from the point where the power source is received from the battery as far as each ground point.

B HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL SYSTEM OUTLINE Current is applied at all times through the STOP fuse to TERMINAL 2 of the stop light SW. When the ignition SW is turned on, current flows from the GAUGE fuse to TERMINAL 8 of the light failure sensor, and also flows through the rear lights warning light to TERMINAL 4 of the light failure sensor.
Page 7
[O] : Explains the system outline. [P] : Indicates values or explains the function for reference during troubleshooting. [Q] : Indicates the reference page showing the position on the vehicle of the parts in the system circuit. Example : Part ”L4” (Light Failure Sensor) is on page 36 of the manual. ∗...
Page 8
B HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL The ground points circuit diagram shows the connections from all major parts to the respective ground points. When troubleshooting a faulty ground point, checking the system circuits which use a common ground may help you identify the problem ground quickly.
The ”Current Flow Chart” section, describes which parts each power source (fuses, fusible links, and circuit breakers) transmits current to. In the Power Source circuit diagram, the conditions when battery power is supplied to each system are explained. Since all System Circuit diagrams start from the power source, the power source system must be fully understood.
C TROUBLESHOOTING VOLTAGE CHECK To Ignition SW IG Terminal (a) Establish conditions in which voltage is present at the check point. Example: [A] – Ignition SW on Fuse [B] – Ignition SW and SW 1 on [C] – Ignition SW, SW 1 and Relay on (SW 2 off) (b) Using a voltmeter, connect the negative lead to a good ground point or negative battery terminal, and the positive lead to the connector or component terminal.

SYSTEM OUTLINE This system utilizes an engine control module and maintains overall control of the engine, transmission and so on. An outline of the engine control is explained here. 1. INPUT SIGNALS (1) Engine coolant temp. signal circuit The engine coolant temp. sensor detects the engine coolant temp. and has a built–in thermistor with a resistance which varies according to the water temp.
Page 72
ENGINE CONTROL (1MZ–FE) 2. CONTROL SYSTEM ∗ SFI system The SFI system monitors the engine condition through the signals, which are input from each sensor (Input signals (1) to (12) ). The best fuel injection volume is decided based on this data and the program memorized by the engine control module, and the control signal is output to TERMINALS #10, #20, #30, #40, #50 and #60 of the engine control module to operate the injector (Inject the fuel).

(1MZ–FE) SYSTEM OUTLINE Previous automatic transaxle have selected each gear shift using the mechanically controlled throttle hydraulic pressure, governor hydraulic pressure and lock–up hydraulic pressure. The electronically controlled transmission, however, electrically controls the line pressure and lock–up pressure etc., through the solenoid valve. Engine control module control of the solenoid valve based on the input signals from each sensor makes smooth driving possible by shift selection for each gear which is most appropriate to the driving conditions at that time.
