Battery
This machine is equipped with a sealed-type
battery. Therefore it is not necessary to check
the electrolyte or add distilled water in the bat-
tery. If the battery seems to have discharged,
consult a Yamaha dealer.
CAUTION:
Do not try to remove the sealing caps of
the battery cells. You may damage the bat-
tery.
WARNING
POTENTIAL HAZARD
Failure to handle batteries or battery
electrolyte carefully.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
You could be poisoned. You could be
severely burned by the sulfuric acid in
battery electrolyte. Batteries produce
explosive gases.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or cloth-
ing. Always shield eyes when working
near batteries. Keep out of reach of chil-
dren.
Antidote:
EXTERNAL: Flush with water.
INTERNAL: Drink large quantities of wa-
ter or milk. Follow with milk of magne-
sia, beaten egg or vegetable oil. Get
prompt medical attention.
EYES: Flush with water for 15 minutes
and get prompt medical attention. Keep
batteries away from sparks, flames, cig-
arettes or other sources of ignition. Ven-

Do you have a question about the KODIAK 400 Ultramatic 4x4 and is the answer not in the manual?
Questions and answers
Have crank no spark on atv.
A Yamaha Kodiak 400 Ultramatic 4x4 ATV may have no spark when cranking due to the following possible causes:
1. Faulty Spark Plug – The spark plug may be worn, heavily carbonized, or have an incorrect electrode gap. Inspect and replace if necessary.
2. Loose or Disconnected Spark Plug Cap – Ensure the spark plug cap is properly connected.
3. Ignition System Issues – A faulty ignition coil, CDI unit, or stator could prevent spark generation.
4. Wiring Problems – Damaged or disconnected wires in the ignition system may interrupt the spark.
5. Kill Switch or Key Switch Malfunction – A defective switch may prevent ignition.
6. Weak or Dead Battery – If the battery is weak, it may not provide sufficient power to the ignition system.
7. Engine Grounding Issues – Poor grounding may disrupt the electrical flow needed for spark.
Checking and addressing these potential issues may help restore spark to the ATV.
