Setup Procedure When Powering on the NEC Express5800/ft
series for the First Time
Follow the procedure below to set up the server for the first time after you purchased.
Step A-1: Starting Setup Procedure When Powering on the Server for
the First Time
The following explains the initial setup procedure of the NEC Express5800/ft series after you
purchased.
You need to prepare the following before starting setup.

CHECK:
You don't need to use any media (e.g., CD-ROM).
IMPORTANT:
You cannot set up the NEC Express5800/ft series properly using procedures other
than the one described on this manual.
The CPU module Status LED 1 and the PCI module Status LED 1 illuminate red
during setup. It does not indicate a malfunction of the module. When the setup has
completed and each module is duplicated properly, the CPU module Status LED 1
and the PCI module Status LED 1 go out and the CPU module Status LED 2 and the
PCI module Status LED 2 illuminate green. For details of the indications of module's
Status LEDs, see "LEDs" on the separate volume of User's Guide.
The preinstalled OS requires setting of dual LAN card configuration. Make sure to
perform the setting on step 5.

Power on the server after the hardware setup has completed.
The preinstalled Linux for NEC Express5800/ft series will start.
2.
Enter a login name.
When the startup is completed, the login prompt, "localhost login:" will be displayed.
Enter "root", and then press Enter.
3.
Enter the password.
"Password:" will be displayed. Enter the password provided on the "Password of
'root' user" packaged with the backup CD-ROM, and then press Enter. The
password is case-sensitive.
If the message "Login incorrect" appears and the system waits for the user to enter
the password again, the login name or the password was incorrect. Enter the login
name and the password again.
