I have been sewing for more than 50 years and have never had this problem. I am using fine 100 polyester thread on sheer curtains. The thread keeps breaking and the thread seems to keep getting caught in the tension area (#2 in threading). I have tried various tension levels and it keeps happening. Suggestions?

When using fine 100% polyester thread and the thread keeps breaking or getting caught in the tension area on the Kenmore Drop-In Bobbin Sewing Machine (18221), follow these troubleshooting steps:

1. Check needle threading – Make sure the needle thread is threaded properly.
2. Adjust thread tension – Ensure the needle thread tension is not too tight (recommended: 2 to 6).
3. Inspect the needle – Replace the needle if it is bent or blunt, and ensure it is inserted correctly.
4. Match thread and needle size – Fine thread may require a finer needle; choose the correct needle type and size for the thread.
5. Check thread placement – Make sure both the needle and bobbin threads are placed correctly under the presser foot before sewing.
6. Pull threads to rear – Always draw both threads to the rear after previous use.
7. Clean bobbin area – Remove lint or debris from the bobbin holder.
8. Check bobbin threading – Ensure the bobbin thread is threaded properly in the bobbin holder.
9. Replace damaged bobbin – If the bobbin is damaged or does not spin smoothly, replace it.

These steps address both thread breakage and tension issues.
