Winterizing and preserving
11.1
Safety
Environmental pollution due to unsuitable disposal of hydraulic and transmission oil
The hydraulic and transmission oils are not entirely biodegradable. Therefore, oil must be
prevented from entering the environment in an uncontrolled manner.
Collect/dam escaped oil with sand, soil, or other absorptive material.
u
Collect hydraulic and transmission oil in a suitable container provided for the purpose, and
u
dispose of it in accordance with the local statutory requirements.
Draining and penetration of oil into the sewerage system is to be prevented.
u
Prevent the penetration of oil into the water drain by setting up sand or earth barriers, or by
u
using other appropriate barrier methods.
11.2
Winterizing
Thoroughly clean the machine before winterizing (refer to chapter 11.3 Washing the machine)
u
Opening metering slide, pre-metering slide
u
Hang up hoses and cables with the connector facing downwards to ensure that water can drain
well. (see Chapter Fig. 40 Storage of the cables and hydraulic hoses)
u
Park the spreader, placing it on parking rollers if necessary (see chapter4.4.7 Stabilizing rollers)
u
Close the cover tarpaulin. Leave a gap open to prevent moisture condensing in the hopper.
u
Preservation of hydraulic components and parts susceptible to rust. To do this, use suitable anti-
corrosion agent. E.g., protective wax
u
Place dust caps on hoses and cable.
Do not store the terminal outdoors. Store in a suitable warm location.
11.3
Washing the machine
A fertilizer spreader must be cleaned after each use and prior to winterization.
