  • Page 13: Suitability/General Information

Suitability/General information The German version of these operating instructions is the “Original instructions”. Any version in a language other than German is a “Translation of the original instruc- tions”. Aerzener rotary piston machines are suitable for the oil-free conveyance of air and neutral gases, as well as for use in special applications in industrial high vacuum technology.
  • Page 14: Operator's Obligations

Operator's obligations The machine is used in industrial environments. The machine operator must therefore meet the legal obligations regarding occupational safety. In addition to the safety instructions in this manual, the safety, occupational safety and environmental protection regulations for the machine's field of application must be observed.
  • Page 15 The machine is suitable only for indoor installation. If the machine is installed outdoors, it must be equipped with an acoustic hood. • Operate flange-mounted motors only in conjunction with the AERZEN connector. Observe screw tightening torques! Thread size Strength class 8.8 /...
  • Page 16 • • Warning! Risk of injury from unsuitable and incorrectly installed drives. Provide and use only suitable drives in accordance with AERZEN requirements. Drives must be designed for this machine and installed properly. • DANGER! Mortal danger from electric current! Contact with live parts presents immediate mortal danger from electric shock.
  • Page 17 • Caution! Operation without sensors presents the risk of injury and property damage. In order to guarantee the working pressures, never operate the machine without sensors or pressure and temperature switches. • Caution! Risk of injury and property damage due to disregarding the operating data. Disregarding the operating data can lead to unforeseen situations that put people in danger.
  • Page 18: Construction, Function

Construction, function Blower stage: The blower stage is supplied as a fully assembled unit. The following additional work must be carried out: • Correct installation/assembly in the relevant unit/system • Connect the conveying pipes. • Check lubricating oil level. • Top up oil level if necessary.
  • Page 19 Starting strainer: It is to be ensured the intake gas is free of dirt and impurities to ensure the reliable operation of the blower stages. In the case of intake from a pipeline, the usage of a starting strainer is recommended. The degree of contamination or the specifications in the maintenance schedule deter- mine when the starting strainer is to be cleaned or replaced.
  • Page 20: Precautions

Due care to be taken before and during operation CAUTION! Identifies all hazardous situations WARNING ! Indicates direct risk to personnel. Upon arrival/receipt, the rotary piston machine is to be checked against the delivery and order documentation for both damage sustained in transit and completeness. Work safety regulations, safety information and operating instructions must all be observed.
  • Page 21 • Do not operate the machine if electrical, mechanical or hydraulic connections are defective or missing. • Do not operate the unit if protective equipment such as the belt guard, coupling guard, valves, etc., is defective or missing. • It is expressly prohibited to operate the rotary piston machine without appropriate protective equipment or safety devices.
  • Page 22 properly connected. • Do not operate the unit with an open intake or discharge nozzle, as rotary piston machines are positive displacement machines which present a risk of injury in the area around the conveying chamber. • Only suitable tools that correspond to the respective standards and design of the bolts, nuts and screwed connections must be used.

  • Page 28: Commissioning

Commissioning Install and assemble the blower stage in accordance with these instructions. Assemble the driving elements correctly. CAUTION! Do not establish any connection with the driving motor yet. On first commissioning Fill empty machines with lubricating oil. Check lubricating oil level and correct if necessary. Check that the oil filling plug and the drain valve are seated securely and do not leak.
  • Page 29 Check the direction of rotation. See the red direction arrow plate on the blower. There must not be any V-belts on the motor pulley/the drive coupling between the blower and motor must not be connected. Briefly start the drive motor (approx. 1 - 2 seconds). Also observe the instructions provided by the electronics supplier/system manufacturer.
  • Page 30: Operating Information For Starting At Operating Pressure

Operating information on starting at operating pressure Starting at operating pressure (medium vacuum): After shut down at operating pressure, it is recommended to only re-start Aerzener vacuum blowers after prior venting of the machine. Otherwise there is a risk that the internal shaft sealing ring will be damaged. Shutting down at operating pressure results in the breakdown of the lubricating film under the sealing lip as a result of the high contact pressure between sealing lip and shaft sleeve.

  • Page 32: Shutting Down/Taking Out Of Operation

Switch off / shutdown • Switch off is effected via the power switch on the motor. • To shut the unit down completely the fuses must be removed after the blower has come to a standstill. The valves on the conveying pipes must be closed. Avoid possible entry of condensate into the blower stage.
  • Page 33: Frequency Converter Operation

Frequency converter operation • If the electric motor is driven by frequency converters, we strongly recommend using an engine throttle and power choke. These are specifically designed for the frequency converter and filter dangerous harmonics from the drive current. Damage to the motor winding can be prevented by improving the electromagnetic compatability of the system and reducing reactions of the frequency converter in the current.

  • Page 35: Maintenance Schedule

Maintenance schedule Whenever work is carried out on the rotary piston machine, it must be switched off and isolated from the electrical mains supply. Failure to observe this point could result in injury or damage. To ensure a long service life and optimum operating conditions, various steps should be taken. These include observance of the maintenance operations and intervals specified in this table.
