AUDIO DUBBING
Audio dubbing means recording a new soundtrack on a
is
pre-recorded tape. In other words, the previously recorded
erased and replaced with a � ew soundtrack.

Audio dubbing is applicable only to the longitudinal audio
track (normal audio). Therefore, a dubbed narration can
be heard together with the original hi·fi sound.
Notes:
• It is recommended that you use a lower-impedance micro­

phone.
• If a stereo source is connected to the AUD
IN connectors,
the mixed L and R sound is recorded.
RECORDING WITH A VIDEO CAM � RA
Connection
To connect a video camera, an appropriate camera adapter
is necessary.
• Connect the video camera to the camera adapter.
• Connect the camera adapter to the H R·S5000U:
adapter's V I DEO OUT to recorder's VIDEO IN,
adapter's AUDIO OUT to recorder's AUDIO I N , and
adapter's PAUSE to recorder's R E MOTE PAUSE.
For proper connection of a camera to the H R ·S5000U, con­
sult a JVC dealer.
Notes:
• If feedback noise (whistling or howling) is heard from the
TV
TV receiver, reduce the volume or move the camera's
microphone farther away from the
receiver.

Procedure
• Switch on the TV receiver.

•Set the TV receiver in the appropriate mode.
Load a pre-recorded cassette. Power will be switched on
automatically.
• Connect a microphone or an audio source to the MIC jack
or the AUDIO IN connectors respectively.
•With both microp
one and audio source connected,

mixed sound is reco ded.

• If you record sounq only from the microphone, the source
equipment connected to the AUDIO

• Press the. PLAY/X2 button to start playback and then press
the REW or FF button to search for the point from which

you wish to start audio dubbing.

ss the PAUSE/STI L L button at the start point of audio
dubbing .

• Press the AUDIO DUB button.
Press the PLAY /X2 button.
•Audio dubbing will start.
• If whistling or howling is heard during audio dubbing, re­
duce the TV volume or move the microphone farther
away from the TV. Recording is being performed even if
sound is not heard from the TV receiver. If you want to
monitor the sound being recorded, connect headphones to
the PHONES jack.
Operation
1 . Turn the power on for all connected equipment.
2. Set the TV receiver i n the appropriate mode.
3. Load a cassette.
4. Set the SOURCE setting to AUX and the S-VHS button as
required.
5. Press the TV/V IDEO button to obtain the VIDEO indica­
tion on the FOP, if necessary (See page 1 0.)
6: Select the R EC SPEED as required.
7. Press the REC/ITR and then the PAUSE/ST I L L button.
•The recorder enters the Recording Standby mode.
8. Operate the camera's start/stop switch.
• Recording starts and stops with this switch.
9. To end the recording, press the STOP button.
• For camera operation refer to the instruction manual for
the relevant camera.

POWER AND TAPE TRANSPORT PROBLEMS
Symptoms
No power is applied to the recorder.
Clock is functioning properly, but the recorder
cannot be powered.
Tape does not run during recording.
Tape stops in the Rewind or Fast F<irward mode.
Tape will not rewind o r fast forward.
RECORDING PROBLEMS
Symptoms
Recording cannot be started.
TV
broadcasts cannot be recorded.
Camera recording is not possible.
Simulcast recording is not possible.
Timer recording is not possible.
HI-Fl AUDIO PROBLEMS
Symptoms
TV sound cannot be recorded on hi·fi audio
tracks.
Breaks are noticeable in hi-ti audio reproduction.
Soundtrack on the hi·fi audio track cannot be
reproduced.
Audio level ind icators do not function.

Check poims
• Is the power cord disconnected?
- Connect it.
• Is the TIMER indicator lit on the FDP7
- Press the TIMER button to turn off the indicator.
• Is the PAUSE/ST I LL button pressed to ON7
- Press the PLAY/X2 button.
• Is the COUNTER MEMORY function engaged?
- Set it to O F F .
• Is the tape already fully rewound or fast forwarded?
- Check the cassette.
Check points
• Is a cassette loaded?
• Is the safety tab on the cassette removed?
- Reseal the slot with cellophane tape.
• Is the SOURCE selection set to AUX or SIMUL7
- Set it to TUNER.
• Are the camera and the camera adapter correctly connected ?
• Is the power switch of the camera adapter set to ON7
• Is the SOURCE selection set to TU N E R or SIMUL?
- Set it to AUX.

• Is the SOURCE selection set to TUNER or AUX?
Set it to SIMUL.
• Is an audio source correctly connected to the AUDIO I N
connectors?
- Check connections.
• Have you set the clock correctly and programmed the timer
correctly?
- Check once again.
• Is the TIMER indicator lit on the FDP7
- If not, press the TIMER button to light the ind icator.
Check points
• Is the SOURCE selection set to SIMUL?
- Set it to TUNER.
• Adjust with the TRACKING control buttons. (See page 1 8.)
• Is the AUDIO MONITOR select button set for NORMAL?
- Set it for Hi-Fi.
• Is the LEVEL INDICATOR switch set to O F F ?
- Set i t to ON.
