14.4
Service life of the SIMATIC memory card
Effects on the service life
The following factors can affect the service life of SIMATIC Memory Cards:
• Size of card and number of guaranteed write operations
• Actual number of write operations
The number of physical write operations to the memory blocks of the card is a result of
the number of write operations from the application.
Note
With the SIMATIC Drive Controller, this includes not only CPU access but also memory card
access (write and delete access) by the SINAMICS Integrated.
You can find methods for calculating the service life of a SIMATIC Memory Card in the
Function Manual Structure and use of the CPU memory
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/59193101) and in an FAQ
(https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/109482591) on the Internet.
GetSMCinfo instruction
If the SIMATIC Memory Card is inserted, you can read out the following information in STEP 7
(TIA Portal) with the GetSMCinfo instruction:
• Memory size in KB (1 KB = 1024 bytes)
• Occupied memory in KB (1 KB = 1024 bytes)
• Maintenance information: Percentage of service life used up so far
• Configured percentage of service life after which the CPU creates a diagnostics buffer
entry and the maintenance LED is activated
You can find additional information on the "GetSMCinfo" instruction in the STEP 7 online
help.
Additional information
You can find additional information on the service life of the SIMATIC Memory Card, on
storage capacity utilization, and on the memory areas used in the Structure and Use of the
CPU Memory (https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/ww/en/view/59193101) function
manual.
