Multiline
Types of Lines
The following are the types of lines:
•
Private line: A line that is only accessible to one
telephone.
•
Shared line: A line that is accessible to multiple
telephones.
•
Direct Station line: A line with a direct connection
to another telephone.
The LED associated with the line key indicates the sta-
tus of a call on the line regardless of whether the call is
conducted on this particular multiline phone or on an-
other multiline phone. The LED associated with the Di-
rect Station Select key indicates 3 different states
(
page 31).
Line Types
You can use the available lines as described below. Re-
gardless of the line usage, all of these lines can be ei-
ther private or shared.
•
Prime line: Every multiline telephone has one
prime line. This line uses your public number so that
you can receive incoming calls on this line. You can
use a prime line either privately or as a shared line.
Certain functions are only available for the prime
line, in order to prevent conflicts with the corre-
sponding secondary lines of other multiline tele-
phones.
•
Secondary line: You can use the prime line of a
multiline telephone as a secondary line for another
multiline telephone.
•
Phantom line: A phantom line does not have a
prime line at any telephone. A typical application for
a phantom line is a hunt group.
