Description

OVERVIEW

  1. High-speed measuring sensor
  2. Extra gentle flexible tip
  3. On/off button
  4. Large display
  5. Battery compartment cover
  6. Protective cap

This premium, high-speed, digital thermometer was developed to measure the human body temperature under the tongue, under the armpit or inside the rectum.

warning As with any other thermometer, proper handling and storage is necessary in order to obtain accurate readings. When used properly, this thermometer will give you years of accurate temperature readings that you can depend on. Please read the use instructions thoroughly. The use of this thermometer is not intended as a substitute for consultation with your doctor.

Safety instructions

  • This thermometer is intended for household use only.
  • The thermometer is only suitable for the measurement of body temperature!
  • Always adhere to the minimum measurement time (until the signaling tone [beep] is heard).
  • Keep the thermometer away from children.
  • Do not expose the thermometer to mechanical shock. Use the protective cap to prevent damage.
  • Do not bend the tip more than 45°!
  • Do not expose to temperatures above 60°C. Never boil the thermometer! Keep the thermometer away from direct sunlight or high temperatures.
  • Only use commercial disinfectants to clean the thermometer. The thermometer must be intact when immersed in liquid disinfectant.
  • Attention: The thermometer contains a SR41 1,55 V battery. The battery life is associated with the lifetime of the thermometer. For your safety the battery compartment lid is securely attached to the thermometer and cannot be removed without a standard tool. For disposal, please comply with local regulations for special waste.
  • The thermometer is initially calibrated at the time of manufacture. If this thermometer is used according to the use instructions, the accuracy of measurements will not be affected. If at any time you question the accuracy of the temperature measurement, please contact the Braun Infoline (phone).
  • Manufacturing date is given by the LOT number located in the battery compartment. The first number after LOT represents the last digit of the year of manufacture. The last two digits give the week of manufacture. An example: LOT 503 – this product has been manufactured in the week 03 of the year 2005.

Hints when measuring at different sites

Oral use
Do not drink hot or cold fluids, exercise, smoke or perform other activities that will raise or lower temperature readings when compared to your normal body temperature. We recommend using the thermometer orally only with children four years and older. The mouth should remain closed up to 5 minutes before taking a reading. Place the probe well under the tongue. Instruct children not to bite down on the probe. Opening the mouth or improper placement of the probe tip could result in a longer measurement time. The peak temperature should be reached in approximately 20 seconds.

Underarm/axillary use
The armpit is not an ideal site to measure body temperature, because temperature is measured on the surface of the skin and not in a closed body cavity (such as mouth and rectum). The time required for an accurate underarm temperature may therefore take 90 seconds or longer. For an accurate temperature measurement you should: Wipe the underarm with a dry towel. Keep the armpit closed for several minutes before placing the thermometer. Do not open the armpit too long before placing the thermometer. Place the thermometer under the armpit and press the arm tightly against the body. Make sure the measuring sensor is completely covered under the armpit and do not open it during the measurement process. To ensure an accurate underarm (axillar) measurement we recommend waiting 90 seconds before reading the temperature displayed. Please note that the reading obtained immediately after the beep might be compromised by the above mentioned shortcomings related to the axillar measurement site.

Rectal use
Gently insert the tip of the thermometer into the rectum. Do not force the tip into the rectum (if resistance is encountered). The rectum is a closed body cavity and allows a faster reading.

How to use the Braun Digital Thermometer

To turn on the thermometer, push the light green on/off button; a short signaling tone [beep] signals «Thermometer on». A display test is performed lighting up all symbols on the display. In an ambient temperature below 32°C «---» and a «°C» appear and the thermometer is now ready for use on different body sites. (In an ambient temperature higher than 32°C, the temperature and a flashing «°C» are displayed).

  • During measurement, the current temperature is displayed continuously. The «°C» symbol flashes during this period of time. The measuring process is finished when the signaling tone sounds [beep...beep...beep 10 times] and the «°C» is no longer flashing.
  • To prolong the life of the battery, turn the thermometer off by pressing the on/off button briefly. Otherwise the thermometer will automatically turn off after about 10 minutes.

Memory Mode

  • If you press the on/off button for more than 3 seconds when turning the thermometer on, the last measured temperature, which was stored automatically, will be displayed. At the same time, a small «M» for memory will appear at the right of the display. After 3 more seconds, this value will disappear and the thermometer will switch off. The stored value will be replaced by the new value, which is also stored automatically.

Cleaning & disinfecting

In order to avoid cross-contamination clean the Braun Digital Thermometer thoroughly after usage. We recommend using commercial disinfectants. Do not immerse the thermometer in this dilution for more than 24 hours.

Body temperature

Normal body temperature is a range. The following table shows that this normal range also varies by site. Therefore, readings from different sites should not be directly compared.

Normal ranges by site:

Axillary 34.7–37.3°C 94.5– 99.1°F
Oral 35.5–37.5°C 95.9– 99.5°F
Rectal 36.6–38.0°C 97.9–100.4°F

However, the range of normal also varies from person to person and fluctuates throughout the day. It is therefore important to determine your normal temperature range. Practice taking temperatures on yourself and healthy family members to determine their normal temperature ranges.

Trouble shooting

«ERR»

Every time the thermometer is turned on a test is performed automatically to check that the thermometer is in working order. If the message «ERR» appears on the display, contact the Braun Customer Service Centre.

«»
When the «»-symbol appears, the battery is exhausted and needs to be disposed.

«H»

The measured temperature exceeds the displayed temperature range (>42.9°C).

«- - - °C»

The measured temperature is lower than the displayed temperature range (<32.0°C).
