4. chiP EXtRActiON
the chip chute is positioned on the topside of the sM1314 for
thicknessing operations and on the underside for planing operations.
4.1
for thicknessing operations the chute must be in the correct
position (uppermost) fig.4. It is fitted with a bracket that actuates a
microswitch and allows the machine to run in thicknessing mode.
4.2
When in this position use the lock screw to screw the microswitch
bracket to the sM1314 to prevent the chute from moving (fig.4).
4.3
Attach a vacuum extractor to the chute nozzle and turn on
before operating the sM1314.
4.4
for planing operations the chute will be on the underside of the
planing table and the planing table will actuate the other
microswitch.
5. GUARD ADJUstMENt
5.1
to adjust the height of the guard, loosen lock lever fig.3A, raise or
lower the guard using height adjusting screw (fig.3B), until it is a
firm sliding fit with the workpiece. tighten knob A.
5.2
After adjusting the guard height it can be adjusted sideways
to set the required stock width (As in fig.5)
 WARNiNG! Always ensure any part of the blade that is to be unused
is covered by the blade guard at all times.
6. OPERAtiNG iNstRUctiONs
WARNiNG! Ensure you read, understand and apply section 1 safety
instructions before use.
WARNiNG! When planing, the workpiece must not be less than
6mm thick. It must be wider than 20mm and longer than 200mm.
We recommend the use of a push paddle to avoid injury.
We recommend you check the alignment of cutting blades before
use. see section 7.4 on blade replacement and alignment.
6.1
PLANiNG
6.1.1
the cutting depth is set by raising or lowering the height adjustment
handle (fig.6A). use the front table plate in conjunction with the
scale on the side of the machine body for the cutting depth.
A cutting depth of between 0.5 and 1.5 mm (1/64"~1/16") will
produce the best results.
WARNiNG: the part of the blades not used, must to be covered
by the blade guard.
NOtE: Attach a suitable dust extractor to the dust chute. this reduces the
amount of airborne dust and health risks associated with inhalation
of particles.
6.1.2
take up a working position so that you are always on one side of the
machine away from the area directly in front of or behind the
cutterhead.
6.1.3
Lift stoP cover and push the start button.
NOTE! The STOP button cover is also the Emergency Stop button. In case
of emergency hit the STOP button cover, it will lock into place to
prevent the start button being activated again. The stop button will
require unclipping in order to gain access to the start button.
6.1.4
Place both hands on the workpiece. Do not hold the workpiece with
your fingers anywhere near the blades.
NOTE! Only plane workpieces which rest firmly on the planer and can be
safely guided.
6.1.5
Introduce the workpiece from the feed (right-hand) side. Gently
guide the workpiece over the blades. Do not force the workpiece but
allow the machine to do the work.

6.2
PREPARiNG sM1314 FOR thickNEssiNG OPERAtiON
6.2.1
remove table lock bolt (fig.7).
6.2.2
Lift table complete with blade guard until it is upright.
6.2.3
Lock the table in the upright position using the knurled knob (fig.8).
6.2.4
Lower table as far as it will go.
6.2.5
Lift the chip chute upwards until it is lying flat on the planing table
and in contact with the microswitch (fig.9).
6.2.6
Lock the chip chute into position using the lock screw (fig.9A).
6.2.7
Attach a chip extractor to the chip chute.
6.3
thickNEssiNG
6.3.1
set the desired height by turning the height adjustment handle using
the graduated scale as a reference.
