8 - TROUBLESHOOTING
Below are tips and guidelines for
troubleshooting some problems or concerns,
which may occur during the life of your
equipment. Should these guidelines not solve a
problem please contact the factory for further
instruction.
Engine won't crank.
• There are 3 electrical safety switches on
every crawler (seat safety switch, brake
pedal safety switch and HC74 Hydraulic
Circuit safety switch. If the safety switches
are not in contact; the switches will prevent
the tractor from cranking.
• Verify the HC74 handle on the right-rear
fender is rotated completely into the OFF
position and the safety switch is depressed.
Vibration during operation can result in the
HC74 Hydraulic Circuit kit handle rotating
slightly and de-activating the safety
switch. Some times the handle may look
like it is in the off position; verify that this is
true.
• With a continuity tester verify both the
Brake safety switch and the HC74
Hydraulic circuit safety switch are operating
properly.
• At the Engine: verify the electrical fuse is
OK.
• Check to see if the solenoid is working.
When you turn the key from run to off
position you should hear a clicking sound.
Have another person listen while an
operator tries to start the unit.
• Verify that the wiring is in good condition.
Check all wiring connectors and replace the
#444 Ignition Switch and/or mating #290
Plug (with #294 wire connectors) if needed.
Engine cranks but won't start or starts and
stops running right away.
• Verify there is adequate fuel & that the fuel
filter is in good condition. Take off the fuel
filter and fuel line by the tank. Check to
make sure the fuel line and/or tank is not
clogged with any debris. Check hoses
leading to the fuel pump and to the
carburetor. Also, check that the fuel petcock
is in the open position and that the flow
goes in the correct position.
• Verify seat safety switch is being engaged
and operating properly. The connection
may be loose.
• Replace with new fuel.
• Carburetor may be clogged and or new
fuel pump may be needed.
Engine dies when not in the seat.
• This is a normal operating characteristic to
safeguard against accidental engagement
of the tractor and/or attachments while not
properly located in the operator's seat.
• If the engine dies continuously, check the
wire connections and verify wires are not
frayed or damaged.
Do Not Bypass this safety feature.
Tractor drive and/or attachments behave
erratically.
• Verify hydraulic fluid level is within the
required operating range. Low fluid levels
can result in air intake to the hydraulic
system, which can result erratic operating
characteristics.
• Verify the large suction lines for hydraulic
pumps are properly secured by their hose
clamps. Loose suction lines can result in
air intake and erratic operation.
• Check the front #1361Pump Belt for wear
and/or adjustment. Replace as needed.
• Check the pumps as well as their mating
keys and keyways. Also check #4004
Torque Arm Tubes.
