Troubleshooting

If you have a problem with your camcorder, refer to this checklist. Consult your dealer or a Canon
Service Center if the problem persists.
Power Source
Problem
Camcorder will not turn on.
The camcorder switches off by
itself.
The screen switches on and off.
Recording/Playback
Problem
Buttons will not work.
"
" flashes on the screen.
"REMOVE THE CASSETTE"
appears on the screen.
The wireless controller will not
work.
Abnormal characters appear on the
screen. The camcorder does not
operate properly.
Recording
Problem
The
dial is not in the OFF
position but the POWER indicator
is off.
Image will not appear on the
screen.
"SET THE TIME ZONE, DATE AND
TIME" appears on the screen.
Pressing the start/stop button will
not start recording.
Camcorder will not focus.
The tally lamp will not light up.

Cause
Battery pack is not correctly attached. Attach the battery pack correctly.
Power save function has been
activated.
Battery pack is exhausted.
Cause
Cassette is not loaded.
Condensation is detected.
Camcorder stopped operating to
protect the tape.
Camcorder and wireless controller
are not set to the same remote
sensor mode.
Batteries of the wireless controller
are exhausted.
This camcorder uses a
microcomputer. External noise or
static electricity may cause abnormal
characters to appear on the screen.
Cause
The LED indicators option in the
customized functions is set to
[02 OFF].
The STANDBY lever is at the LOCK
position.
The
dial is not set to a
recording program.
Time zone, date and time are not set,
or the built-in rechargeable lithium
battery is exhausted.
Cassette is not loaded.
The
dial is not set to a
recording program.
The lock switch is set to prevent the
operation of the controls on the
carrying handle.
Autofocus does not work on that
subject.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.
Lens is dirty.
The tally lamp option in the customized
functions is set to [02 OFF].
Solution
Turn on the camcorder.
Replace or charge the battery pack.
Solution
Load a cassette.
See reference page.
Remove the cassette and reinsert it.
Change the remote sensor modes.
Replace the batteries.
Disconnect the power source and
reconnect it after a short time. If the
problem still persists, disconnect the
power source and press the RESET
button with a pointed item. Pressing
the RESET button resets all
settings.
Solution
Set the [LED] setting to one of the
other types.
Turn the STANDBY lever to the
STANDBY position.
Set the
dial to a recording
program.
Set the time zone, date and time. If
necessary, power the camcorder
with the compact power adapter and
leave it connected with the
dial set to OFF for at least 24 hours
to recharge the built-in battery
before making the settings.
Load a cassette.
Set the
dial to a recording
program.
Slide the lock switch to the left to
enable the operation of the carrying
handle controls.
Focus manually.
Adjust the viewfinder with the
dioptric adjustment lever.
Clean the lens.
Set the [TALLY LAMP] setting to
[ON] or [BLINK].
