Engine Coolant Level Check

For details of the specification of fluid used by this system and the system capacity, please refer to:
Engine Coolant Specification.
McLaren Customer Racing advises customers to use a 75:25 mixture of de-ionized water and
antifreeze.
To check the engine coolant level:
1. Make sure the engine is cool and switched off
2. Slowly unscrew the header tank pressure cap half a turn and allow excess pressure to escape
3. Unscrew and remove the header tank pressure cap
4. The engine coolant level is correct when the level is between the lower and upper steps inside
the filler neck
5. Using the correct specification of fluid and dilution ratio, top up the coolant if necessary

6. Refit the header tank pressure cap and turn clockwise until the stop
NOTE: Please exercise caution when removing the header tank pressure cap whilst the engine is
still warm.
NOTE: Engine coolant is toxic, please exercise caution.
NOTE: McLaren Customer Racing recommends that the coolant level is set prior to the engine
reaching operational temperature.
NOTE: Do not add any type of water wetter to the recommended coolant. The addition of a
water wetter may cause a build-up, which could block the heat exchangers causing temperature
increase.
