S E M I and F U L L break-in
Two bre a k - i n methods a re p rov ided w i t h t h e TS -440S
transce ive r , S E M I and F U L L break-in . With e ither bre a k ­
i n operation d e press i n g t h e CW k e y w i l l c a u s e t h e ra­
d i o to t ra n s m it w ithout t h e need f o r m a n u a l l y s w i tc h ­
i n g t h e S END /R EC s w itc h . T h e d iffe rence between
FULL a n d S E M I bre a k - i n is t h at d u ri n g FULL b r e a k - i n
ope ration it is possible to l isten bet ween dots a n d d a s h ­
e s , a n d t h at d u ri n g S E M I bre a k - i n it is not .

With e i t h e r S E M I or F U L L bre a k - i n operat i o n , c ross
b a n d /cross m o d e o p e rat i o n is n ot poss i b l e . A d d it i o n ­
a l l y , w h e n you are u s i n g F U L L b r e a k - i n o p e ration you
s h o u l d n ot w o r k c ross b a n d s p l its , o n l y i n t h e s a m e
b a n d .
The TS-440S a l s o provides a s i d e -tone o s c i l lator c i r ­
cuit to a l l o w m o n itoring of y o u r CW signal d u ring trans­
m i s s i o n .

( a ) Sem i-automatic break-in

D e p ressing the C W key w i l l automatica l l y place the
transceiver into the transm it mode . Tra n s m it mode
w i l l be m a i n t a i n e d for a period dete r m i n e d by t h e
setting of the V OX D ELAY control o n the rear p a n e l
of the t r a n s c e i v e r , e v e n a f t e r t h e CW key is
released .

(b) Full -automatic break-in

D e pressing the CW key will automatica l l y place the
t r a n s c e i v e r into t h e tra n s m it m o d e . R e l e a s i n g the
CW key will return the radio to receive immediately
e n a b l i n g r e c e p t i o n bet w e e n c h a racters .
Caution :
The TL - 9 2 2A / 9 2 2 l i n e a r a m p l ifer is not d e s i g n e d
for f u l l bre a k - i n type o p e rat i o n . Att e m pt i n g to use
t h i s a c c essory i n t h e FU L L break-in m o d e c a u se
d a m a g e to o c c u r to t h e l i n e a r a m p l i f i e r .

S e lect the d e s i red f r e q u e n c y w i t h i n the 28 M H z
a m ate u r r a d io band . P l a c e t h e M O D E key to F M a n d
t h e M e t e r s w i t c h to A L C .

Press the m i c ro p hone PTT s w it c h or p l a c e t h e S t a n d ­
by s w i t c h to S END .
A d j u st t h e C A R c o n t rol u n t i l t h e meter d eflection is
within t h e A L C zone . This w i l l p rovide full powe r i n the
FM mod e .
To decrease the power, place t h e M eter s w itch t o PWR
a n d w h i l e o bs e r v i ng the meter rotate the C A R control
cou nterc loc k w i se until t h e d e s i red o u t p ut l e v e l is o b ­
t a i n e d .

than f u l l output .

a c c u rate read i n g s .
