Before starting operations This chapter explains the workflow for conversion and required preparations. Workflow Pre-work preparations. Remove the hard disk units. Remove the covers from a tower type. Reposition the operator panel and 5-inch storage bays. Attach the covers to a rackmount type. Install the server in the rack.
Pre-work preparations CAUTION • For safety reasons, make sure the server is located on a stable and level surface when performing the conversion as the combined weight can be 40kg. • Also, work in an open space as the rackmount must be laid horizontally to perform the conversion.
Converting and installing the server This chapter explains the procedures for converting the server to a rackmount type and installing it to the rack. Removing the hard disk units Remove the hard disk units. The hard disk units must be reinstalled after the server is installed in the rack.

Remove the hard disk cover. After sliding the drive cover to the upward position, pull the underlying hard disk cover forward to remove. Touch the metal chassis to discharge static electricity. Remove the hard disk units. Pressing the release button on the hard disk unit, raise the handle upward to release the lock and pull out to remove.
Removing the covers from a tower type Remove the left, front, and right side covers. CAUTION • Before handling the covers or any hardware options, first touch the metal chassis to discharge static electricity. Removing the left side cover Remove the side cover. If the side cover is locked at the back, first unlock it using the side cover key.

Lift the front cover upward to remove it. Removing the right side cover Remove a screw on the rear side of the server that fixes the right side cover. Release the tab using a tool such as screw driver and slide the right side cover to the rear of the server to remove it.
Repositioning the operator panel and 5-inch storage bays To convert the server to a rackmount, you must reorient the operator panel and 5-inch storage bay components as follows: Operator panel 5-inch storage bay CD-ROM/FD drive Before After Removing the rubber feet and side plate Place the server top down.

Removing the operator panel and 5-inch storage bays Pull out the operator panel. Pull the operator panel slowly towards you while pressing its latches inward. Reinstalling the operator panel and 5-inch storage bays Reinstall the operator panel, all 5-inch hardware options or dummy units, and CD-ROM/FD drive in this order from the top bay. Lay the server on its side. Orient the server for a rackmount. Reinstall the removed operator panel.

Reattaching the left side cover Reverse the procedure in "3.2 Removing the covers from a tower type" ( pg.38) to reattach the left side cover to the server. Make sure that all expansion cards are properly inserted in their slots before reattaching the left side cover.
Installing the server in the rack This server requires 4U of cabinet space for a rackmount. Decide the server's position (height) in the rack cabinet before starting installation. Reinstalling the hard disk units CAUTION • Be sure to reinstall the hard disk units to their correct bays from which they were removed.Hard disk units installed in wrong bays may not operate correctly. With the handle open, reinsert each hard disk unit into their respective storage bays.
Connecting peripheral devices after install- ing the server in the rack cabinet Connect peripheral devices after installing the server in the rack cabinet. When connecting cables of peripheral devices, make sure to maintain the space for drawing out the server of the rack. When the server is drawn out of the rack, the power cable could be unexpectedly pulled out.
After rackmount conversion This chapter explains tasks required after rackmount conversion and settings for operation. Reconnecting peripheral devices and the power cable Reconnect the peripheral devices and the power cable. Refer to "Start Guide" supplied with the server and connect the peripheral devices and the power cable of the server correctly.
