8.2.2 | The PPM + Loudness Meter (ITU BS.1771, EBU R128, ATSC A/85, ARIB or Custom Loudness modes)
Depending on the selected channel mode, the ITU BS.1771, EBU R128, ATSC A/85, ARIB or Custom Loudness Meter modes
of the Program Meter generate up to 9 bargraphs, devided into up to three groups:
•
The bargraphs of the Channel Group read the current loud-
ness of the input channels according to their associated
channel label (along with PPMs, if selected). The loudness
values are weighted according to the ITU BS.1770 K fi lter.
•
In the Sum Group, the bargraphs M, S and I represent the
summation of all input channels in the display. The sum-
mation matrix used here can be edited using the Channel
Weighting 5.1 menu option. All measurements are weigh-
ted with the K fi lter described in ITU BS.1770 standard.

In the LRA Group, a Loudness Range (LRA) instrument
conforming to EBU R128 can be activated. It displays a
graphical representation of the loudness variances within
short time periods. The LRA parameter allows for making
assumptions on whether the program has seen or requires
dynamic processing with regard to the intended distributi-
on path.
The loudness bargraphs can be used with digital signals in
5.1 Surround and 2-Channel Stereo modes. The display bar
width is adjusted automatically. The bargraphs of the loudness
groups have a numerical display and an over indicator. The
loudness bargraphs in the Channel Group can be combined
with PPM bargraphs in various ways.
