We recommend you build dedicated safety and security networks whenever it is pos-
sible. Advantages of dedicated safety and security networks are:
- You control the network;
- You choose the components;
- You can place the network components in your own housings;
- You can profit from power supplies with battery backup of the control units;
- There is no risk that other bandwidth-intensive applications will reduce the per-
formance of the network.
Disadvantages of dedicated safety- and security networks are:
- You need trained staff for commissioning and maintenance of the network;
- You may need to keep some additional spare parts in stock.
- Higher installation costs.
