AILERON CONTROL SYSTEM - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
1.
General
A.
The ailerons receive input from the pilot or copilot control wheel through a series of sprockets, chains,
pulleys, cables, bellcranks and pushrods. For an overview of the system, refer to Figure 201. For a
breakdown of system components, refer to Figure 202, Figure 203 and Figure 204.
2.
Control Yoke Removal/Installation
A.
Remove Control Yoke (Refer to Figure 202).
(1) Disconnect battery cables and insulate terminals as a safety precaution.
(2)
Remove center pedestal cover.
(3) Remove rudder bar shields, carpeting and plates as necessary for access to lower end of control
yoke.
(4) Remove avionics equipment and associated hardware as required.
(5) Remove engine and cabin air controls as required.
(6) Remove right hand forward side upholstery panel.
(7) Remove bolt from each end of parking brake assembly and swing assembly away from working
area.
(8) On upper right side of control yoke, remove bolt attaching bearing to yoke. On left side of control
yoke (Figure 202, Detail B), remove similar bolt securing spacer and roller to upper yoke.
(9) Remove instrument panel and structure as required to allow yoke to slide out under right side of
instrument panel.
(10) Remove safety wire/clip and disconnect direct cable turnbuckles.
(11) Remove bolts attaching control wheel tubes to universal joints.
(12) Remove bolt attaching push-pull tube to control yoke.
(13) Remove pivot bolt from base of control yoke and carefully work control yoke out from under right
hand side of instrument panel.
B.
Install Control Yoke (Refer to Figure 202).
(1) Place control yoke in position under instrument panel.
(2)
Secure control yoke to structure with pivot bolt.
(3)
Connect elevator push-pull tube to control yoke.
(4) Connect control wheel tubes to universal joints using bolt.
(5) Reconnect direct cable turnbuckles and safety.
(6) Reinstall instrument panel structure and instrument panel.
(7) Reinstall engine and cabin air control cables.
(8)
Reattach spacers, rollers, bushings and bearings on upper left and upper right control yoke.
(9)
Reinstall parking brake assembly to structure.
(10) Rig aileron cables. Refer to Adjustment/Test.
(11) Check and/or rig elevator control system.
(12) Check and/or rig all engine and cabin air controls.
(13) Check all avionics and/or electrical equipment which may have been disconnected or become
inoperative while performing the preceding steps.
(14) Reinstall all items removed for access.
3.
Aileron Removal/Installation
A.
Remove Aileron (Refer to Figure 203 and Figure 204).
(1) Disconnect aileron pushrod at aileron.
(2) Disconnect electrical bonding straps.
(3) Remove screws and nuts attaching aileron hinges to trailing edge of wing.
(4) Using care, pull aileron out and down to slide hinges from under wing skin and auxiliary spar
reinforcements.
