Building the PC Interface for Your Office
PhoneMail System
This chapter applies to HOP and HOP E systems.
4.1
Prerequisites
For building the PC interface, you need:
An installed HOP or HOP E Software Release 2.0 system.

For HOP systems, the installation procedures are described in the Hicom Office Pho-
neMail, Installation and System Administration Guide .

For HOP E systems, the installation procedures are described in Chapter 3, "Installing
a New HOP E Board into an Existing Hicom CS".
If a previous HOP E system is updated to Software Release 2.0, the installation pro-
cedures are described in the Hicom Office PhoneMail Entry Software Release 2.0, Up-
Issue Card Installation Instructions.
A PC with a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT operating system.
A modem cable, 0.3 to 15 m (1 to 50 ft) long. One connector must fit the COM port of your
PC (standard COM ports have plugs), the other connector must be a DB-9 receptacle. Your
service provider does not supply this cable.
For a HOP E system, you have also the adaptor cable attached to the HOP E board and
running through the Hicom CS as described in Section 3.4 on page 3-4 and Section 3.6 on
page 3-7.
A terminal emulator.
This book assumes you are using HyperTerminal Version 690170 as a terminal em-
ulator. If you are using another HyperTerminal version, or another terminal emulator,
adjust the instructions accordingly.
