CLEANING THE HEADS

Iron oxide particles from the m agnetic tape will, in tim e, build up on
the parts that com e into direct co n tact w ith the tape. These
deposits can som etim es prevent autom atic stop at the end of the
tape or cause incom plete erasure and a " m u ffle d " sound during
playback.
Clean areas indicated after every 40 hours of use.
W ith the cassette d o o r open, the parts indicated can be cleaned
(gently) w ith the optional head cleaner in Tape Care Kit No. 5-1715.
A nother convenient m ethod is to use the optional cassette head
cleaning tape, No. 5-1108.
PREVENT ACCIDENTAL ERASURE
W hen you have a recording you w ant to keep perm anently, break off
the rear left tab of the side you w ant to save as show n in the fo llo w
ing illustration:
W hen a cassette w ith the tab broken o ff is inserted into the tape
unit, accidental erasure is prevented by a lever in the m echanism
that keeps the REC b utton lever from depressing. Cellophane tape
can be placed over the opening if you later decide to record over the
original recording.
PLEASE NOTE: Your m achine is equipped w ith a cassette sensing
m echanism . This m echanism prevents the RECORD b utton from
