@Steven Horak it is failing the ppm test. Im very unfamiliar with this device. Had it for about a yr and never had it failed.

The % volume function on the MSA ALTAIR 5X main screen displays the concentration of combustible gases in volume percentage (% Vol). This function is relevant for infrared (IR) sensors measuring gases like propane, butane, and methane at high concentrations.
It relates to % Lower Explosive Limit (% LEL) in that: - The device uses % LEL readings for combustible gas detection up to 100% LEL. - If the environment contains more than 100% LEL of a combustible gas, the catalytic LEL sensor will enter a latching over-range alarm. - In such cases, the IR sensors will switch from displaying % LEL to % Vol gas readings to provide accurate concentration data.
This ensures proper monitoring and safety in environments with high combustible gas concentrations.

what would cause my device to fail the bump test

The MSA ALTAIR 5X fails a Bump Test if the gas sensors are not functioning properly. If any installed sensor does not respond correctly to the test gas, the device will not display the √ symbol on the MEASURE page. Additionally, failure may indicate the need for a full calibration to ensure accuracy.

why does it keep beeping and reads underrande

The MSA ALTAIR 5X may keep beeping and display "underrange" due to low battery warning or calibration issues. If the battery is low, the device will emit alarms and flash LEDs, and it should not be used until recharged. Additionally, environmental factors such as pressure, humidity, or incorrect calibration gas may cause sensor readings to fall below the expected range, triggering an underrange warning.
