Possible solutions for an Akai M-9 where the right reel won't self-wind during play include:
1. Check the motor torque – If the motor is faulty, it may need to be replaced. 2. Inspect and clean the supply reel shaft assembly – Dirt or lack of lubrication may cause rotation issues. Clean and re-oil if necessary. 3. Examine the take-up reel clutch material – Excessive slippage of the felt clutch material can cause winding issues. Adjust or replace the clutch material. 4. Check the tape guide roller – If it does not rotate properly, re-oil or replace it. 5. Inspect the reel itself – A warped or defective reel may prevent proper winding. Replace if necessary.
If these steps do not fix the issue, further troubleshooting of the power transmission mechanism may be needed.
